What Types of Sedation are Used for Routine Dental Practice?

• Gas. Gas is preferred by most patients as it does not require the use of needles. Patients inhale the gas through a mask and are able to stay conscious throughout the dental procedure.
• Oral sedation. This sedation technique also eliminates the use of needles and may sometimes cause patients to no longer recall what transpired during their treatment. Patients may also fall asleep although they can easily be awakened with a shake. Oral sedation can range from minimal to moderate depending on patient needs.
• IV Sedation. This form of sedation is administered directly into the vein, hence making it work faster and gives a quicker recovery than the oral version.  Patients receiving IV sedation may feel drowsy and fall asleep during the treatment. You may not even remember your visit at all. But no worries, you’ll also wake up easily with a shake.
